Victor Cripes

Victor Cripes

I came across Victor Cripes in Newtown a couple of weeks ago, heavy in the middle of a grungy blues jam like the kind I’d expect at a Black Keys show – my curiosity was peaked.

It could have been their unique portable rig (custom-built 1 year in the making), the hand-crafted guitar played by Matt, or even the beat-boxing flute player that is his brother Pete that led me to one conclusion: I wanted to make a music video for them. We had the same vision, a simplified, all-about-the-music approach and feel to the music video.

I had such a great time helping them make a music video that a photo shoot seemed like a natural next step. We took our time one day and I shot the way I love to – spontaneously, finding spots that felt right for their look and feel. The only shots we actually planned were those surrounding their van, the rest were improvised – the way it had to be.
